Prof. Ruby Ho-Yan YU

Ruby Yu is an Associate Professor at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and a Senior Research Fellow at the CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing. She obtained her PhD from CUHK and has dedicated her career to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older adults through research and teaching in gerontology.

Her research focuses on promoting healthy ageing, with particular emphasis on strategies to enhance intrinsic capacity, prevent frailty, and preserve functional ability among older adults. In collaboration with the World Health Organization, she has contributed to validating the concept of intrinsic capacity within Chinese populations. Her work further examines the trajectories and determinants of intrinsic capacity and frailty, their impacts on health outcomes, and how neighbourhood environments and social participation influence functional trajectories and wellbeing. Prof. Yu’s current studies include developing and evaluating integrated community-based care models for older people, refining care pathways that link primary health care and community services, and testing scalable interventions that embed healthy ageing within primary care.

Prof. Yu has led and contributed to several community initiatives that translate research into practice, spanning age-friendly environments, digital tools for self-management, and strategies for preserving intrinsic capacity in midlife women and older adults. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, 16 book chapters, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Frailty & Aging.
