Bio

Prof Eliza Wong is a Registered Nurse of Canada and Hong Kong (HK). She further pursed her PhD at The Chinese University of Hong Kong with focus on the implication of Chinese medicine in public health.  Also, she is an Accredited Mediator of HK International Arbitration Centre and HK Mediation Accreditation Association Limited.

Prof Eliza Wong’s main research interests are the patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) including patient experience and preference-based health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Prof Wong has rich experiences on surveying and expertise in the area of patient experience on quality of care. In 2009, she has been taken up the responsibility in developing a first locally validated instrument for measuring population-based patient experience in collaboration with the University of Oxford. And she led her research team to conduct the first and further territory-wide surveys in all public hospitals in Hong Kong to inform continuous quality improvement. She was visiting scholar of the School of Public Health, University of Oxford in 2012 to exchange and translate knowledge on PROMs. Regarding preference-based HRQoL, the HK Chinese version of EQ-5D 5-levels questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L HK) has been culturally adapted and validated by her team and its normative profile of utility was established as reference for further application in resource allocation and health technology assessment. The research is now extended to develop and validate different instruments which are applied to all population. To further enhance patient-centred care, she is also interested to conduct research to prove the validity and sensitivity of HPV self-sampling in order to advocate self-care and enhance the coverage of HPV-related cancer screening. The research findings aim to provide insights for evidence-based in health policy making to incorporate HPV self-sampling in the territory-wide cancer screening programme as well as to increase public awareness of HPV-related cancers.  Prof Wong has also obtained grant to improve population health through intergenerational solidarity.

She has published more than 160 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals.  She has obtained research grants/ donation from local government, government agencies/ non-profit organizations, international academic associations, and industry partners.  She also serves in the editorial boards of several international scientific journals including Assistant Editor for Hong Kong Journal of Nursing; and as key members of various organizations including Education Bureau, Hong Kong College of Health Service Executive, The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong, etc.
