[Event Highlights] Visiting Academics – Academician Shen Hongbing & Prof William E Funk at Public Health Frontier Forum Series

We are delighted to have two distinguished scholars, Prof Shen Hongbing, Academician, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Director General, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Prof William E Funk, Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine (Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention), Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, visit our School on 23 May 2024.


During their visit, the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC) hosted the “Public Health Frontier Forum Series by Prof. Shen Hongbing”, which consisted of 2 sessions, attracting an in-person attendance of 50+ participants respectively.

Public Health Frontier Forum Series by Prof. Shen Hongbing (1): Reform of the National Disease Control and Prevention System and the Cultivation of Public Health Talents


Prof Shen, as the featured speaker, shed light on the advancement of disease control and prevention in China as well as the education for future leaders in the field. Participants actively engaged in the Q&A session that followed, which was moderated by Prof Shelly Tse, Associate Director (Mainland China Affairs) and Professor at JCSPHPC.

Public Health Frontier Forum Series by Prof. Shen Hongbing (2): Molecular Epidemiology and Big-Data Cohort Studies


In the afternoon session, Prof Shen illustrated his research excellence through his keynote presentation titled “Lung Cancer Epidemiology and Molecular Epidemiology”, analysing the risk factors for lung cancer and highlighting potential measures for lung cancer prevention and control in China.


This session was enriched by the sharing and discussion among renowned scholars, including Prof William E Funk, Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine (Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention), Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Prof Shelly Tse, Associate Director (Mainland China Affairs) and Professor, JCSPHPC, and Prof Hein Min Tun, Associate Professor, JCSPHPC. It was a unique opportunity for academics and scholars to present their research findings and exchange ideas on inter-sectoral public health risks and issues.
