The JC School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The George Institute for Global Health successfully co-hosted “A workshop on Health Economics in Policy and Practice” on 16 September 2024. The event was moderated by Professor Benjamin Yip, Associate Professor, JCSPHPC and ran by Professor Stephen Jan, Program Director of Health Systems Science at The George Institute for Global Health. With over 25 years of experience in health economics and health systems research and teaching, Professor Jan shared his extensive knowledge with the participants.
The workshop offered an overview of key economic concepts and economic evaluation, allowing participants to gain a general understanding of the role of economic evaluation in health sector decision making, with the illustration of case studies and critical appraisal.
A highlight of the workshop was the panel discussion, “How Do We Achieve Impact with Economic Evaluation Evidence on Clinical Practice and Health Policy?” The panel featured Professor Stephen Jan, Professor Benjamin Yip, Professor Vivian Lee, Associate Professor, Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research at CUHK and President, International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcome Research (ISPOR) – Hong Kong Chapter, Professor Shirley Li, Assistant Professor, jointly appointed by Department of Medicine and School of Clinical Medicine at The University of Hong Kong, and Professor Juliana Lui, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK. The panellists shared invaluable insights, sparking lively discussions among participants and creating an inspiring atmosphere.
Concluding the workshop, Professor Samuel Wong, Director of JCSPHPC, presented souvenirs to Professor Stephen Jan and the panel members as tokens of appreciation.
