Presentation Abstracts
Topic 1: Air pollution and daily mortality: from PAPA to MCC studies
The speaker will give an overview on the health effects of air pollution on mortality during the past decades, and discuss the challenges and future research directions. The Public Health and Air Pollution in Asia (PAPA) study and Multi-Country, Multi-City (MCC) study will be extensively discussed.
Topic 2: Health Risks and Response to Extreme Weather Events under Climate Change
The speaker will outline the health risks of extreme weather events under climate change, present research methods for developing early warning systems for different extreme weather events, and discuss the challenges and future research directions.
About the Speakers
Professor Haidong KAN, Professor of Environmental Epidemiology and Associate Dean, School of Public Health, Fudan University
Prof. Haidong KAN is a Professor of Environmental Epidemiology and Associate Dean at the Fudan University School of Public Health. He is a Member of Academia Europaea and Fellow of the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE). He serves as an Associate Editor for Environmental Health Perspectives and the International Journal of Epidemiology. Prof. KAN research focuses on understanding the health impacts of ambient air pollution and global climate change.
Dr. Tiantian LI, Deputy Director, The Institute of Environmental Health, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Dr. Tiantian LI is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Environmental Health at the China CDC. Her work delves into climate change, air pollution and health impacts. She has been honored with the 2024 Distinguished Young Scholar Fund from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the 2022 China Female Scientist Award from Cell Press. As a first or corresponding author, she has published over a hundred papers in Nature, The Lancet, JACC, Circulation, Nature Climate Change, Lancet Public Health, Lancet Planetary Health etc. Additionally, she serves as the members of Climate Change and Air Pollution Committee of the World Heart Federation and the National Expert Advisory Committee on Environment and Health in China.
About the Moderator
Professor Shelly TSE, Professor and Associate Director (Mainland China Affairs), JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Prof. Shelly TSE is a Professor and Associate Director (Mainland China Affairs) of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. TSE obtained her Bachelor of Medicine from Fudan University (China) and PhD degree at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and received further training in the NCI/NIH of USA. Her research interests focus on assessing health impacts of occupational and environmental exposures on worker health, such as e-waste recycling, nightshift work and imaging genetics of silicosis. Prof. TSE has been awarded research grants of USD6.8million and published 220+ research papers with h-index 40. She is also the key international collaborator of WHO/IARC on lung cancer SYNERGY project. She received the Second-Class Award of State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (SSTPA) in 2014.
Prof. TSE is now holding some important positions to serve the professional societies, such as, National Secretary of ICOH, P. R. of China, Research Committee Chairman of Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC).
