Adary Zhang and Vivian Lou to receive the first inaugural awards for the Chi Li Pao Foundation\u2019s Master of Public Health Fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, The Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education<\/u><\/a> (CARE) and The Chinese University Hong Kong (CUHK) announced the launching of a fellowship program<\/u><\/a> that will provide one to two Stanford medical students the opportunity to earn a Master\u2019s degree in Public Health (MPH) from The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC) in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adary (Ada) Zhang (they\/them) is an MD student with a scholarly concentration in health services and policy research and global health. Adary’s research commitments have included studies examining the impact of health policies on LGBTQIA+ people in the US and studies assessing the impact of health systems and structures on NCD control in China. They are also involved in community-centered work and has collaborated on several advocacy and research initiatives with and for communities in the US and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI believe that an MPH from CUHK is the next necessary step I need to take so that I can enact material change for my communities and transform my expertise in community-centered work into advocacy, research, and policy work at a transnational level.\u201d -Adary Zhang<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Vivian Lou (she\/her) is an MD student with scholarly concentration in clinical research, with a specialization in women’s and sexual and gender minority health. She previously led the Stanford chapter and served on the national board of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association. She is currently involved in clinical research on staging and treatment guidelines for peripheral artery disease, for which she has presented her work at various international conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe CUHK MPH program will help me achieve my goal of integrating clinical medicine and public health. Ultimately, in my future career, I am determined to advocate for what I believe in, which is the universal right to care that upholds culture and identity.\u201d -Vivian Lou<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Adary and Vivian\u2019s academic excellence, commitment to public service and demonstrated potential to make a large impact in Asian Health have been the driving factors to their selection as the first Stanford student ambassadors to a program that will serve as an important platform for further collaboration in education, research, and health care. Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at the Stanford School of Medicine, Dr. Neil Gesundheit, has been a staunch advocate and supporter of Stanford CARE\u2019s global engagement, stating “we are thrilled at Stanford that Ada Zhang and Vivian Lou, two of our elite medical students, have been selected to be the inaugural fellows to complete MPH studies at Chinese University Hong Kong (CUHK). These students will have the advantage of completing superb MPH coursework while immersed in Hong Kong culture, providing them with an incomparable introduction to the study of global health. Their year at CUHK promises to be a career-transforming experience, and we expect that Ada and Vivian will bring new perspectives to their classmates in Hong Kong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Samuel Wong, Director of the JC School of Public Health has expressed enthusiasm for the exchange stating, \u201cWe are excited that two outstanding students from Stanford Medicine are awarded the CLP MPH Fellowship to study the full-time MPH Program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and hope that this initiative will foster further collaborations between the two Medical Schools!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chi-Li Pao Foundation MPH Fellowship awards Adary and Vivian with round-trip tickets to Hong Kong, full tuition, and a living stipend for one year. They will enroll in a comprehensive co-curricular leadership development program set within CUHK \u2014a robust network of faculty, students in public health, research, and medicine. The two Fellows will be provided opportunities for engagement with mentors and highly accomplished leaders who will enhance the ability to impact the local communities one may study as well as serve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
