CU Medicine and Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University signs MoU to forge strategic partnership in medical development, education, research and the nurturing of talents

The Faculty of Medicine, CUHK (CU Medicine) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University (Shanghai Medical College) on 28 May 2024. With an aim to further enhance collaborations and knowledge exchange in medical education, innovative research and public health care service, the MoU was signed by Dr. Jin Li, President of Fudan University and Dean of Shanghai Medical College and Professor Philip Chiu, Dean of CU Medicine.

Following the signing ceremony, the delegation including Dean Chiu, Professor Samuel Wong, Director of The JC School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC), Professor Shelly Tse, Associate Director (Mainland China Affairs) and Professor, JCSPHPC and other representatives from CU Medicine, visited the Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. The visit deepened mutual understanding in the increasing healthcare demand brought by the accelerated medical development in the region, facilitating an exchange of ideas and discussions on the upcoming strategic collaboration.

The Shanghai Medical College was founded in 1927. Today, it is equipped with top-notch teaching staff and research facilities. CU Medicine is ranked 1st in Hong Kong, 2nd in Asia and 28th globally in 2024 QS Ranking. The MoU signifies the collaboration between the world-leading medical schools, contributing to the promotion of education, research and industry innovation.


The long-standing collaboration between Shanghai Medical College and CU Medicine, spanning over two decades, has laid a strong foundation for this new partnership. Dean Chiu expressed confidence in the positive impact brought by the concerted effort and combined expertise from both institutions, which will contribute to advancing knowledge transfer and medical innovation.
